What reason does Jessie presently give for his "false" confession?  I've heard supporters say he only confessed because he wanted a reward.  But if you asked him right now, why did he confess more than once what would his answer be?

If it's any help, there was a poster named Trueromance who was as supporter as you could get.

Enough so that she actually developed a personal relationship with Jessie - visiting him in prison even.

By her own words she started hearing things from Jessie that made her "back away"

She's a non now.

I remember reading something about that when I first found the boards.

So, are you saying that he hasn't made a public statement about his confessions?  IF he is actually claiming he's innocent then he has to have a reason for making his confessions, right?

Also, have Damien and Jason made statements about why Jessie "falsely" confessed?

From going on memory the only other anwser I got about Misskelleys several confessions was that several mentally challenged people have confessed numerous times before. After posting the ASSC response to his confession argument to finding everything they were saying about the confession to be without merit, I got nothing.

From the year 2000:

Quote
dogisyourname asks: Do you have any hard feelings for Misskelley? I know if someone implicated me like that it would be hard to forgive...
damien_echols_live: No I don't really have any hard feelings toward them, because I know he's retarded. You can't really hold it against him because he didn't really know the consequences of his actions. He's basically a child in his mind, so you can't hold it against him.

Kinda changed his story after the "movement", didn't he?

In a 94 interview with BOI authors he said: "I don't like stupid or ugly people, and Jessie Misskelly is both."

Yes.

I've noticed that Damien changes his story often.  Kind of like with his alibi, or with his feelings about JMB.

If you tell the truth your story shouldn't change.

I thought Misskelly's reason for his multiple confessions was that, "they just kept eggin' it on."

Funniest thing I've read on the subject was that, "Misskelly was sooo retarded, he just kep' confessin'".

Yes, Stidham acknowledges that Jessie told him the same story he told the WMPD for months.

His explaination?

Jessie didn't know he was an Attorney.

Yeah, I guess Jessie never got to speak to his folks all that time.

If you have any interest at all in the truth, go and download the audio of Jessie's statement and follow along with the written commentary pointing out the hug inconsistencies.  That a man is on death row, two in prison and 3 little boys denied justice as a result of this "statement" is an outrage.

For those who have ears, let them hear:    http://www.dpdlaw.com/jmstatements.htm
Take it a step further and read up on false confessions.  Wikipedia isn't a source, but it cites all the legitimate articles on the issue:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/False_confession

JESSIE:         They were at the bottom.
RIDGE:         On which side?
JESSIE:         Memphis side
RIDGE:          They were on the Memphis side.
JESSIE:         I was on
RIDGE:          Alright, we're going to correct that even further, that's the east side, Memphis side is the east side and you were standing at the top of the bank on the west side, were you looking down at what was going on?
JESSIE:         I was looking down, and after I seen all of that, I took off

You will let us know when you are ready to address the fact that Jessie told his own attorney the same thing he told the WMPD, won't you Dave?

The Memphis side IS the east side, he was clarifying the direction.

We can only speculate why Jessie made several confessions.  Didn't he also recant those confessions?

Jessie could have confessed a hundred times, but if the information he gave is factually inaccurate, there just is no reason to find any merit in such confessions.  The initial confession could have been conducted significantly better.  Investigators are supposed to ask open-ended questions.  The transcripts prove that they did otherwise.

That's ridiculous.

First off, innocent people don't confess again and again and again.

Second, it's very common for a confessor to minimize their own involvement.
