For the newbies Damiens chat

<Damien2> I only get creeped out by people who put perfume on their letter.
I'm trapped in this itty bitty cell and it gets all over and never goes
away. It makes me nauseous. My number one pet peeve.

<Damien2> No I didn't say that! (laughs) I read it... maybe not in a timely
fashion, but I save it for a rainy day....

<Damien2> Hate mail... I've gotten like maybe on ehate letter since I've
been here... and there was another one from a guy who was just trying to
tell me why he thought that I was guilty...

wearing black and being freaky?
<Damien2> Um, well, I'm fine with it now considering I don't do it
anymore... I'm trying to fit in amongst the humans without being noticed
these days... You know...

<Damien2> I think JMB has done SEVERAL things... but if you're specifically
asking about the murders of those three children... Then I say that yes I
do think that he did it...

<Damien2> Spirituality or philosophy... I don't really make any
distinctions between religions or philosophies these days... I basically
think that it's the people who are involved with them that give them the
boundries and draw lines of seperation....

<Damien2> no... I have one book that's like little bits of every
existential philosopher but it doesn't go into any great depth on any of
them... but I love Nietzsche

spirituality and philosphy; I was asking how you would describe your
philosophy.

<Damien2> no I've read Beyond Good and Eviland The Antichrist... and I also
read the book Nietzsche and Turin which is a record of his last days...
<scott19> Do you plan to marry your girlfriend when you get out?
<Damien2> Yeah.. I might even do it here. I don't really look at her as a
"girlfriend" but more like my wife now... but yes I do plan on making it
"legal" either here or when I'm out

<Damien2> Yes but Burk, Grove and Kathy are beggers anyway so it doesn't
bother me too much... They're just following their lives ambition
anyway.... (laughs)
<Jill> Being Christian, I was appalled at the manifestation of Christianity
as it was portrayed in West Memphis. I wondered if that "brand" of
Christianity is what turned you off to the idea of a living and loving God.
<Damien2> WEll... Christianity doesn't turn me off..I have no problem with
Christianity, it's the people who call themselves Christians that have a
tendency to turn me off...
<Damien2> Kathy: do you care how people dress when they attend your hearing?
<Damien2> Yeah... I ahve to dress like a certain way for them... I don't
think it would hurt anyone else to do it. Because if you dress "scary" then
people are going to perceive you as being less serious...
<Damien2> I forgot to add... speaking of religion and marriage... The only
type of marriage ceremony that I would really want would be Catholic...
<Damien2> That sort of demonstrates that I don't have an ax to grind with
Christianity...

<Damien2> Well because I was once classified as being Catholic... And I
like the seriousness of all the ceremony that goes along with the Catholic
wedding... I still have part of me that feels very comfortable with the
Roman Catholic church, fom being involved with it. Its just what I feel
comfortable with...

"real" evidence. What is Damien's opinion of Brent Turvey, and the
scientific evidence he brings??
<Damien2> Turvey.. I don't know him as a person, but I have NO objections
to anyone who brings any evidence to this case that will help us get to the
truth about this. It can only prove that we didn't do it so I'm all for it.
<Beestie> Damien --I hope you don't mind this question -- but don't you
have a problem with the way the Catholic Church says all those who do not
accept Christ will go to hell?
<Damien2> I had to go through all these Catholic classes.. And I never
heard that before.. It's usually non Catholics who hold that belief.. I
have never been told in the Catholic church that any non Catholics would
necessarily go to hell... Popular misconception similar to thinking

From a 1996 interview:

DAMIEN: I have no doubt that the actual killer is John Mark Byers. He had the knife with his son's blood on it not to mention the fact that he could never keep his alibi straight. It was also proven in court that whoever killed those children had the skill of a surgeon and Byers was a jewel cutter. There was also testimony that his knife could have made the wounds on the children because the blade was consistent with the cut pattern.

From a 2004 interview:

In the second one, they asked you about John Mark Byers and you expressed a lot of anger toward him, and said that you felt you were in jail for a crime he committed. Does Zen help with that or do you still have a lot of anger?

DAMIEN: That’s hard to say. Some mornings I get up and I’m still convinced he’s the guilty party, but then other times… there’s been a lot of weird things that have come up with this case, through private investigators that have uncovered things that make you do a double-take, that seem kind of weird about other people too that were never brought up during the trial.
