Clemens, Bonds Named In MLB Steroids Report
Clemens, Pettitte Reportedly Named

Seven-time Cy Young Award winner Roger Clemens and seven-time National League Most Valuable Player Barry Bonds are among the players named in George Mitchell's report on steroid use in baseball.

Mitchell said his 20-month investigation into drug use in baseball finds there has been widespread use of performance-enhancing substances in the sport and that Major League Baseball has been slow to react.

Each of the 30 clubs had a player or players involved in taking illegal substances.

The Mitchell Report, exposes a "serious drug culture within baseball, from top to bottom," according to the Associated Press. It said MVPs and All-Stars are involved and calls for beefed-up testing by an outside agency to clean up the game.

New York Yankee left-hander Andy Pettitte, a friend and teammate of Clemens, was also part of the report. ESPN.com reported that a former trainer for the Yankees and Clemens told investigators he supplied both pitchers with steroids and that information is in the report. The Web site cited an unidentified source close to the trainer.

The report by former Mitchell, a former Senate majority leader will include names of 60 to 80 players linked to performance-enhancing substances and plenty more information that exposes "deep problems" afflicting the sport. Two sources with knowledge of the findings tell the AP the report will not address amphetamines.

Baseball commissioner Bud Selig was to hold his own news conference a few blocks away 2½ hours later and the Major League Baseball Players Association is holding a news conference at 6 p.m. EST. Watch the news conferences live on KNBC.

Lawyers for Major League Baseball and the Players Association told ESPN.com that Mitchell's report said blame should be shared by both sides for tolerating a culture of drugs in the sport.

Mitchell, a director for the Boston Red Sox and former chairman of the Walt Disney Company, was hired by Selig in March 2006 after the publication of "Game of Shadows," a book by two San Francisco Chronicle reporters about slugger Barry Bonds' alleged steroid use.
