I'm sure this question is probably a little late, but why was Damien the only one that got the death penalty? How did they prove that he was the supposed "ringleader?"

He was the oldest He carried himself as the leader His actions showed him as the ringleader I can almost promise you his actions towards the victims family members and his nonchalant attitude doomed him to death.

Order of Execution, Damien Echols. Echols received three death sentences.

Most of his actions such as blowing kisses etc. were not done in view of the jury, most were either out side of the court house or while being led out of the back of the court room.

The kisses blown to the parents were brought to the attention of the jury during his testimony, however. And they did make it on the jury chart as one of the "cons" against him. I think his behavior played a part, though maybe not as big of one as some people might assume.
I think Jason's age may have been a consideration in him not receiving the death penalty as well, though I do think the jury believed Damien was the ringleader.

There's no "may have" to it, the jury listed his minor status as a mitigating circumstance.

I used to think what a damn shame all three didn't get the death penalty until is figured out once damien is dead the others will be long forgotten and will rot in prison only wishing they had gotten it to.
I don't care if I am 75 and in a wheel chair I will always come to any parole hearing and raise hell in my opposition to them ever being released, I want them to die in prison as lonely old men in agony over the murder of my son and his friends. God willing may they never feel freedom again but pain, despair and guilt over the crime they committed. My daughter has agreed to carry on the fight as long as it takes if I should ever pass on.

Thanks to the excellent work of the Prosecution in this case, there won't ever be any.

The Jury was aware of Damien's actions toward the parents. Baldwin was viewed very differently by some. Actually, this is why I don't believe that the details of the Misskelley confession were given to the Jurors... or that they heard the tape. If they had been given the details of the confession, there wouldn't have been a soft spot for Baldwin. The deliberation was not difficult for Damien's case.

Each day a lucky 55 people (or so) receive an organ transplant, but another 55,000 are on the waiting list. 10 people on the waiting list die each day, because not enough organs are available. Four thousand of them die each year while waiting. Every 16 minutes a new name is added to the list.

After they cut his hair and cleaned him up he looked like an alter boy. Plus the fact that his mother told him not to say anything and he didn't.
