Yes it is true that Damien Echols blew kisses and smirked at the victim's families. Can you imagine how the families would have felt? Personally, I wouldn't have been able to stay in my seat if I were in their position.

Technically, it's not proof of his guilt. There are quite a few people that will argue that he had every right to act like that as he was scared/upset/angry, etc, etc, that it was a reaction within reasonable boundaries for an innocent man.

Well just between me and you (and the rest of the board, heh) it's was one of the biggest 'what the hell' moments for me. It's not evidence - far from it - but I think it was very telling in terms of how he thought of himself as the "West Memphis boogeyman" (a comment he made which you may have seen in the Paradise Lost movies).

Why some parents are now Supporters is complicated (if you read these boards a little you may make up your own mind on it), and at the end of the day their reasons are only known to them. I couldn't speculate on other's motives, not going through the horror that they have of losing a child in such a horrible way.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. Kimbo I remember that picture you posted from PL but I didn’t realise he was looking at the parents. It’s a good example of what I meant by him not taking the situation seriously.

I agree that it doesn’t prove guilt as it’s not actual evidence linking to the crimes but it showed a certain type of insensitivity that no normal human being could have. He could have been angry or upset but he never looked it, he just looked bored throughout most of the trail. Not only that but if he did feel upset, how did he think the parents felt? It doesn’t matter what they said to him, he knew they were grieving the loss of their children and that behaviour was totally inappropriate.

I have read some of the Exhibit 500 documents and they do explain a lot about Damien’s mental health. Although a lot of the documents I read are relevant to the case I didn’t want to accuse someone of murdering three innocent children based on things he had said. All teenagers say stupid things and go through problems growing up, I went to school with a lot of people who said things like he had but never actually did anything wrong, they were just attention seeking and trying to shock people. However when you combine his mental health history with his behaviour throughout the trails and his disrespect towards the families of the victims, he really didn’t help himself. Thanks for all the info.

I don't think they did, but I don't have it on DVD. I got the VHS version years ago.

The part that REALLY got my undivided attention was when Ford asked Jason if he thought Damien could have "done it."

Jason replied, "they sure made it seem like he did."

I think that Jason was RIIIIIGHT on the verge of singin' like a canary, but then the little girly baby shut down.

And what did Ford say once Jason made that statement?

"You think Damien's testimony, hurt his case?"

Jason says, "Yeah."

Ford says, "So do I."

If you watch the Geraldo show on the case, a couple minues in there is video footage of Damien licking his lips at one of the parents who called him a faggot.

I never said Damien was a good guy. He was a cocky teenager with a bad attitude ... I realize this.  And if he didn't murder those kids, he probably didn't even consider the fact that they were grieving, as he himself had no connection to them.
 
If I was called a faggot by anyone, ANYONE, I'd have some kind of reaction, too. And licking your lips in someone's general direction doesn't necessarily mean anything. And even if done intentionally and in an exaggerated manner, it doesn't prove guilt. It proves that Damien isn't going to let you call him a faggot without reacting in some way.

You have to be serious, Cocky teenager lets see he got kicked out of school for starting fires, threatening teachers and you call that cocky, I say its the making of a serial killer, he just got caught before he killed more kids.

Watson you were not at the trials, but I have talked to people who were Damien was putting on a show, he loved the attention yes he blew kisses at the parents, If I was there he would have been called worse than a faggot.

Seven times in one year.  That's a hell of a lot more than a cocky teenager with an attitude.  That's a teenager with very serious problems.
