i haven't been reading much case material lately, havent even read much of the rule 37 stuff. the discussion of the knife in this thread intrigued me though. the only updated info i knew about the lake knife until now was what was in, what i think was one of the writs, concerning garrett schwarting and someone else. i can't even remember what they said about the knife.
from what i can gather, it seems a friend of Gail's said that Gail threw a similar knife in the lake before the murders.
well, i know that matt baldwin claims something different about the lake knife, and ya'll may too.
i believe it was while rule 37 was going on that matt came to wine board chat several times. he said that sometime before the murders, he, jason, and at least one other person were standing in their yard, and jason acted like he was gonna throw the knife in the lake, and the knife slipped out of his hand and went into the lake. i asked him what part of the yard they were standing in, but he never clarified it. in my mind, i was thinking that a knife that size would have to be fairly heavy, and to travel very far as a result of a "slip" would be unlikely.
matt went on to give a theory about someone i had never heard of (or forgotten). he said that a certain person could have retrieved that knife from the lake and committed the murders himself, then threw it back in the lake. it was a guy that, from the best i can recall, was arrested in marion, and died while in the marion jail. i don't recall his name, but it seems i did verify that that particular person did die in a local jail.
i told matt that he should post that story on one of the boards, and he said he would be glad to do it the next day. matt was posting on several boards at that time, and i never looked to see if he had posted it, and i can't find one on any of the boards now that shows he ever mentioned this story.
just thought it was interesting that Gail, or one of her friends, may have a different story.
