This was in the book, Blood of Innocence? I havent read the book, was that the book written by Mara? That comment right there, "I want out of this," is a big red flag. Your right, If he was innocent, why would he say that.
I just finished Blood of Innocence last week. The three writers worked for the Commercial Appeal here in Memphis. I believe Marc Perrusquia still does, but I don't know about the other two. I too couldn't get past the second page of Mara's book and didn't want to read Damien's either.BOI is a quick, easy read. It refreshed my memory about some stuff and I learned several new things I hadn't seen elsewhere. Brown Board has an index someone compiled for the book, that was one of my problems with it.Jessie would have recognized Aaron's voice on the tape. Someone mentioned to me that he was more likely friends with Aaron, not so much Vikki, and that's why he was over there so much. The more I think about that, the more I tend to agree. He was known for hanging out with younger kids.
What does it matter if Jessie did recognize Aaron's voice? Gitchell still got the reaction and confession.Do you think Jessie would have said "I want out of this! I want to tell you everything" if Gitchell played a recording of say a woman with a Brooklyn accent?Yes, playing the tape worked. I'm not disputing that. :dontknow:
I am saying that it's possible he heard his friend on the tape, someone he probably talked to about the murders (because Aaron was their friend) and assumed Aaron had told the police what he knew. That would explain the dramatic "I want out of this." So yes, I think it does matter that it was Aaron's voice. If Gitchell played the voice of a stranger, I don't think he would have gotten the same dramatic response.Would he have confessed without the tape? Who knows, for the longest time I didn't know about the tape, all I knew was that he confessed. I have no idea what you think I have doubts about, so I'm not sure how to answer that.
Would a guilty person do this for so long?
