5/12/93   PAMELA HUTCHISON

Went to the Sanders at 6:30 or 6:00 on Wednesday (May 5th) night.

Stayed no more than one hour.

Damien went with them.  Michelle and Joe did also.

Went straight home.

Went to bed about 12 a.m.      Damien was already in bed.

09/10/93   PAMELA HUTCHISON

Fixed and ate supper at 5:30 or 6:00

Who ate supper - Damien, Joe, Pam, Michelle, and Pam's mother.

Cleaned up after supper.

Watched tv until about 6:30.

Left at 6:30 to go to the Sanders'.  Michelle, Damien, Joe, and herself.

11 year old Jennifer Sanders was there alone.

All four went inside - Damien, Michelle, Joe and herself.

Pam sat down at the kitchen table.

Jennifer told her that her parents had gone to Splash.

Pam said she and Joe had not gone to Splash with them before.

Then, Fogleman asks her AGAIN, immediately after, HAVE you gone to Splash with them before, and she says Yes.

She says they went with them once on June 3rd.

She then says that she, Joe, her mother, and Randy Sanders have been once together (about a month ago, which would have been August).

She says that she sat at the kitchen table, and Joe, Michelle, and Damien all sat on the couch.

She says they stayed 30 minutes, then she wrote a note to Susan, rolled it up, and put it in her purse, which was on the table.

Went home and watched tv.  All watched tv but Damien, who was on the phone.

09/10/93 JOE HUTCHISON

Worked 12 midnight to 8 a.m. every day.

Randy and Susan Sanders called and asked them to come over.  Pam spoke to them.

At first he said no.

Changed his mind later that evening, and told Pam they would just load up and go over there for a few minutes.

Got there about 7 o'clock.

Said that Randy and Susan knew someone who had a gold card and they had gone with them to Splash.

Said Jennifer was there.

Said about Damien being there:

Quote
JOE:  It was me, Pam, Michelle, and if I ain’t mistaken, I can’t be positive, because I’m trying to run this back in my mind.  But, Damien was with us.  But, I cannot be positive.  I can remember the three of us being there.  Uh...... a lot of times he's went with us over there.  He's been over there when we didn't go.

FOGLEMAN:  But you don't.........you don't..........you remember the 3 of you.  But you're not positive about Damien?

JOE:  No.  Sometimes he went with us, and sometimes he didn't.

Sat on the couch for a few minutes.

Pam wrote a note and stuck it in Susan's purse.

Said the first time they went with the Sanders to Splash was June 3rd.

Said it was the first time he had EVER been to Splash casino.

Said the longest they were there was 30 minutes.

Said he, Pam, and Michelle sat on the couch and watched 90210.

Jennifer say on a big long blue chair.

Went home, got home around 20 till 8.

Remembers Damien being at home when he got there and on the phone.

Quote
FOGLEMAN:  Okay.  But you don't remember he was with you at the Sanders.

JOE:  I don't want to put myself on the spot and tell you yeah, he was there or no, that he wasn't.

FOGLEMAN:  But you remember he was home later that night.

JOE:  Yes, Yes, I do.  I remember that, because I remember him talking on the phone.

Said it had not gotten dark, but the sun was not up.

Joe was off work on Thursdays and Fridays.

09/03/93  MERIDETH MCKAY

19 years old.

Her cousin Stacy Sanders was there on May 5th.

Watching tv, heard a car drive up, saw Pam, Joe, and Damien across the street.

Told Stacy, who glanced out the window.

Thinks Joe was driving and Pam was in the passenger seat.

Thinks Damien had on a long brown trench coat.

Said she knew it was Wednesday because 90210 was on and it came on at 7, and that was the only night it came on.

Said they pulled up about 6:30 because her daddy wasn't home yet and he got off at 6.

Said her Aunt and Uncle, Susan and Randy, have been to Splash about 5 times.

Said that was the first time they had ever been to Splash with Don, and that they had been with Pam and Joe about 4 or 5 times recently.

Said they are Pam and Joe's best friends.

Only saw 3 people get out of the car.

Did not see anyone else.

09/3/83 DEBBIE MCKAY

Asked if she was at home, she said if it was a Wednesday, she was off, and she thinks it was, she thinks that was the night.

Asked if she was sure, she said "for it to be that Wednesday...no".

Said she looked out the window and saw Pam, but did not see anyone else.

09/02/93  JENNIFER SANDERS

Said they came over on a Wednesday in May.

Sat there and stayed 20 to 30 minutes.

Said Pam, Joe, Michelle and Damien came over.

Her mother left about 6:30.

They got there about 7.

Sat down and watched 90210.

Comes on at 7.

Did not remember how Damien was dressed.

Does not remember anything about the day before.  No special reason she remembers that day.

Remembers one thing about the day after.  Went to see her boyfriend play in his band.

**(Supposedly missing the next whole page).

When Fogleman asks her if defense attorneys have spoken to her, she begins to mumble, but says no.

Positive they got there at 7 because 90210 was JUST coming on.

Says her parents go to Splash all the time.  Once or twice a month.

Remembers a time when Domini, Jason, Damien, and another boy came over after dark and stayed till about 10.  Parents not home - at Splash.  When the kids left, they said they were going to walk the other kid home and go to Jason's. This was probably in April, she said.

09/02/93  STACY SANDERS

Remembers it was a Wednesday that they came over, she knows it was the first Wednesday in May.

When asked how she "knows' this, she replies:

Quote
STACY: BECAUSE IT WAS THE WEDNESDAY THAT MY PARENTS WENT TO SPLASH, WITH SOME FRIENDS OF THEIRS AND IT WAS 90210 WAS ON AND IT HAD, I THINK THE PROM OF 90210

FOGLEMAN: ALRIGHT, WHY WOULD THAT HELP YOU TO REMEMBER IT?

STACY: UM, BECAUSE I REMEMBER, I THINK IT WAS TWO DAYS LATER THEY WENT AGAIN AND THAT’S WHEN DAMIEN GOT ARRESTED, I THINK THAT WAS THEN

FOGLEMAN: OKAY, ALRIGHT, THE TIME YOUR TALKING ABOUT IS 2 DAYS BEFORE DAMIEN GOT ARRESTED?

STACY: I THINK IT WAS

FOGLEMAN: OKAY, UM, ALRIGHT, TELL ME WHAT HAPPENED?

STACY: NO WHAT A MINUTE

FOGLEMAN: GO AHEAD IF SOMETHING WRONG, FEEL FREE TO CORRECT IT

STACY: I’M NOT FOR SURE IT WAS 2 DAYS BEFORE HE GOT ARRESTED OR NOT, I JUST REMEMBER IT WAS A WEDNESDAY WHEN HE CAME OVER, AND HE GOT ARRESTED ON A FRIDAY NIGHT, BECAUSE THEY WENT TO SPLASH AGAIN

FOGLEMAN: OKAY,

STACY: WITH HIS PARENTS

FOGLEMAN: ALRIGHT, WHEN HE UM, WHEN THIS OCCURRED YOU SAID IT WAS A WEDNESDAY, OKAY 2 DAYS LATER WOULD HAVE BEEN FRIDAY?

STACY: FRIDAY

FOGLEMAN: IS THAT WHEN YOUR TALKING ABOUT?

STACY: I’M TALKING ABOUT THE WEDNESDAY THAT THEY CAME OVER

FOGLEMAN: OKAY, AND I’M TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT WEDNESDAY THAT WAS?

STACY: ALRIGHT, WEDNESDAY, I KNOW IT WAS THE FIRST WEDNESDAY IN MAY, BECAUSE MY PARENTS WENT TO SPLASH

FOGLEMAN: ALRIGHT, AND THEN EARLIER YOU SAID THAT 2 DAYS LATER YOUR PARENTS WENT AGAIN DID THEY NOT?

STACY: I’M NOT FOR SURE IF THAT’S WHEN THEY WENT OR NOT, 2 DAYS LATER

FOGLEMAN: OKAY, ALRIGHT WILL, I’M TRYING TO FIGURE OUT IN MY OWN MIND HOW YOU WOULD REMEMBER THAT PARTICULAR AND VISIT?

STACY: I REMEMBER BECAUSE I WAS ACROSS THE STREET AT MY COUSIN’S WATCHING TV AND 90210 WAS FIXING TO COME ON

FOGLEMAN: OKAY,

Said they arrived at 7 o'clock, she knew, because her show was about to come on.

Remembers looking out the window and seeing Pam, Joe, and Damien.

Said she saw them entering the house.

Said she looked out again midway through the show and they were gone, because she figured if Michelle was with them, she'd come over there and get her so she could see her, but she didn't.

Said she saw them getting in the car.

She only saw Pam, Joe, and Damien.

She then says this, which makes no sense, really:

Quote
STACY: I JUST, I SEEN PAM AND JOE AND DAMIEN

FOGLEMAN: OKAY

STACY: AND THERE WAS SOMEONE ELSE WITH THEM BUT I COULDN’T TELL WHO IT WAS

FOGLEMAN: WHERE, WHAT DO YOU MEAN THERE WAS SOMEONE ELSE WITH THEM?

STACY: THERE WAS 4 PEOPLE, BUT I JUST SEEN 3 GETTING INTO THE CAR, THERE WAS ONE IN THERE

FOGLEMAN: ALRIGHT, NOW YOU TOLD ME THAT YOU SAW 3 GO IN AND YOU SAW 3 GETTING IN THE CAR, WHERE DOES THE 4TH ONE GET IN?

STACY: THEY WERE GOING, THEY WERE GOING IN, SO SOMEBODY ELSE COULD BEEN IN FRONT AND ALREADY WENT IN WHEN I LOOKED UP AND SEEN THEM

FOGLEMAN: ALRIGHT, BUT WHERE DOES THE 4TH, ON THE WAY OUT, I MEAN HOW DO YOU SEE THE 4TH ONE?

STACY: I JUST SEEN SOMEBODY’S HEAD

FOGLEMAN: WHERE?

STACY: IN THE CAR

Said that Wednesday night was the first time Susan and Randy had ever been to Splash.

Said that since then, they've gone with Pam and Joe a couple of times.

Knows one week they went twice, but they don't go that often in the week.

09/30/93   DONALD DEWITT

"On or about the first week of May 1993 I went to Splash Casino with my wife and Susan Sanders with her husband.  I am not sure of the date but I think it was on a Wednesday Night.  I used my admission card #1566 and would have put 3 guests down as being with me.  We left about 6 p.m. and returned at 2 a.m. the next morning."

01/12/94  DONALD DEWITT

RIDGE: This is Det. Bryn Ridge of the West Memphis Police Department, currently in the West Memphis Police Department. Todays date Wednesday, 01/12/94, the time is 11:29AM. In the office with me is Donald Dewitt and Rose Dewitt. Uh, Donald, remembering back to May of this year, excuse me, last year now, 93, you said that you received a gold card?

DONALD: Right

RIDGE: Okay, what were the circumstances surrounding you receiving that gold card?

DONALD: I hit a jackpot and they voluntarily gave me a gold card.

RIDGE: Okay, you filled out some type of application while you were down there, some kind of information

DONALD: They took information from me and I received the gold card in the mail.

RIDGE: Uh, you had another card that you used before that, it was just a regular Splash card, I understand

DONALD: Right

RIDGE: Uh, it was in your name, the number is 61356

DONALD: Yeah, that’s right

RIDGE: That’s right, and your gold card number is 1566?

DONALD: That’s right

RIDGE: Okay, uh, you remember going to Splash Casino with Susan Sanders and her husband?

DONALD: Right

RIDGE: Okay, in front of us, we have four log in sheets, one dated 04/29/93, one dated 05/05/93, one dated 05/09/93 and one dated 05/14/93, that’s about a two and a half week period of time there, that’s four times that you would have gone down to Splash Casino, during that period, is that about normal?

DONALD: It was just about right, that’s about how many times we were going down there at that time

RIDGE: Pretty often, uh on 04/29/93 right at the bottom of the sheet, it has Donald Dewitt and Rose Dewitt, did you sign both of these names there?

DONALD: Ugh, ugh

RIDGE: Okay, and used the card number 61356?

DONALD: Right

RIDGE: Okay, on 05/05/93 uh, number 10, shows Donald Dewitt, then there is a 2, with an X over the top of it and a 1 beside it, okay when you first got your gold card, you probably or you think you put a 2 down, because it was you and Rose

DONALD: Right

RIDGE: Okay, and do you know who put this X on here and the 1

DONALD: I’m positive that the lady down there X-ed that out and said, you only have one guest and put a 1 in it.

RIDGE: Okay, the next date we have is 05/09/93, and lets go down to line number 12, and beside the line there under the guest list, you have a 3, do you remember that as being when the Sanders would have gone with you?

DONALD: According to these sheets laying here, this would have probably be the time that they went with me, they did go with me, but I can’t say positive that this was the day they went with me, but according to these sheets, this should be the date that they went with me.

RIDGE: Okay, this is of the four sheets, now we go to 05/14/93, this has Donald Dewitt on line 11, and you have 2 guest, uh anytime you would have taken one more person beside you and Rose, that was not the Sanders?

DONALD: No, it would not have been the Sanders

RIDGE: Because if it was anybody, it would have probably been your son out there, Ronnie?

DONALD: Ugh, ugh

RIDGE: So, of these four sheets, and of course, I went through from the uh, 27th of October all through the 17th of May and these are the only four times that you name appeared on the sheets. Uh, you’re certain that every time you went down there, you signed in on the sheet?

DONALD: During the time they had these sheets,

RIDGE: Yes

DONALD: I signed in every time

RIDGE: Okay, that’s what I need to know and uh, so, to the best of our knowledge, when you have these three guests on 05/09/93, that’s when you, Rose, and the Sanders, Susan Sanders, what’s her husband’s name?

DONALD: Randy

RIDGE: Randy Sanders, that’s when they went with you?

DONALD: Yeah, according to these papers, that’s when it would have to be.

RIDGE: Okay, alright. During that particular time, were there any other couples that went with you, down there, that you can remember?

DONALD: Uh, we have taken people down there, but I can’t remember the dates, but during that week there, I don’t think there were no other couples that went with us.

RIDGE: Okay, that’s what I needed to know

DONALD: And, anytime that any of them that went with us, it was usually on a weekend.

RIDGE: Okay

DONALD: We very seldom went, you know, I mean, during that time, I mean, we just happened to go that one night, because they were wanting to go.

RIDGE: Okay

DONALD: They had mentioned going to Splash and I said, well, we’ll go.

RIDGE: Okay, they approached you wanting to go to the Splash, or have you all been just like friends for a while?

DONALD: Well, we had the Bargain Center down here, and they came in, and uh, Randy didn’t care nothing about going, but his wife loved to go, said, she would love to go. Well, I said, we can go down there, if we don’t even play, we can go and eat a meal and have fun, you know, but

RIDGE: Do you know if they had ever been before?

DONALD: I don’t think that they had ever been before

RIDGE: Okay, how about since then, have they been with you

DONALD: Now, that, naw, uh, uh, just that one time is all that uh,

RIDGE: Did anything in particular happen when they were there with you, uh loosing a bunch of money, or winning a bunch of money, anything like that?

DONALD: I think neither one of us see either won or lost a bunch, because we didn’t take much with us

RIDGE: Sorta broke even?

DONALD: Yeah

RIDGE: You mean, you and the Sanders, or you and Rose?

DONALD: Well, me and Rose, I mean, we always lost a little you know, but that particular night we did loose, and I don’t they took but $30.00 or $40.00 bucks with them, so I’m sure they lost all of theirs too.

RIDGE: Okay, alright. Is there anything else that you can think of that, you know, is there any reason that would make you, okay, that’s what I wanted to ask you, did you write a check for any cash money before you went down to Splash that night, or

DONALD: I don’t think we did

RIDGE: Okay. So, there wouldn’t be any receipts anywhere that we would know about?

DONALD: No

RIDGE: Okay. Uh,

DONALD: I didn’t draw no money out of the bank, on the card

RIDGE: Okay, alright, I’ll go ahead and conclude the interview. That’s all I really needed, the time now is 11:35AM. This is Det. Ridge again, the time is 11:37AM. In talking with the Sanders, 05/09/93, now that was a Sunday

DONALD: Talking with the Dewitts

RIDGE: Excuse me, the Dewitts, talking with the Dewitts, now the night that you went down to Splash Casino, with the Sanders, it was after you had closed the restaurant that night, that evening?

DONALD: The Bargain Center

RIDGE: The Bargain Center, now that’s the one right here?

DONALD: Yeah, yeah, right

RIDGE: At Rhodes and Broadway?

DONALD: Yeah

RIDGE: And, you closed it about 5?

DONALD: Uh, uh

RIDGE: And, about what time did you all leave from here actually going to Splash?

DONALD: Probably 5:30, 5:45 at the latest

RIDGE: Okay, uh on Wednesday, what time would you have closed, if it had been on a Wednesday?

ROSE: We always close about 5 or 6 at the latest.

RIDGE: During the week, even on the weekend, 5 o’clock was the closing time?

ROSE: Yeah, yeah

RIDGE: Okay, that’s what I needed to know. Alright, I’ll conclude the interview again, the time is 11:38.

09/30/93  ROSE DEWITT

"On or about the first week of May 1993 I went to Splash Casino with my husband, Susan, and Randy Sanders.  We left at about 6 p.m. and returned about 2 a.m.   I think this occurred on a Wednesday, but I am unsure.  Donald used his admission card and listed 3 guests, accounting for me, Susan and Randy."

09/10/93 MICHELLE ECHOLS

Got home that day about 5 o'clock.

She watched tv, and Damien was on the phone with Jennifer.

He talked to Jennifer about an hour.

Left about 20 till 7 and went to the Sanders' house.  Does not remember if they ate supper either before or after the visit.

All 4 went.  All 4 went inside.

Stayed about 30 minutes.  Jennifer was working on a project, and she, Damien, her mother, and her father watched 90210.

Went straight home.

So..........

Jennifer Sanders says they were all four at her home that night.

Pam Hutchison says they were all four at the Sanders that night.

Michelle Echols says they were all four at the Sanders that night.

Joe Hutchison cannot remember if Damien was with them or not, but he remembers that he was at home later.

Damien Echols remembers going over there at 3 to 5 that DAY, although all others remember it as 7 p.m.

Susan Sanders admits to conversations with Pam Echols immediately following.

Stacy Sanders saw three people, then claims to have seen 4, in a confused statement.

Merideth McKay saw three people.

Debbie McKay saw Pam.

Don Dewitt and his wife cannot be sure what day it was, but did take the Sanders one night.

The records from the Splash Casino indicate that he and his wife went alone on May 5th to the casino, but that on May 9th, there were three guests with him.  The other date he went he took his son - one guest.

Joe Hutchison remembers where everyone sat.  Everyone but Damien.  Right there, on the couch next to him.
