Here's what I think happened:

I may not agree with you, Dog, but I like this post. It's innovative, even if largely in the way you put some things that have been said before together. (And I don't mean that in a sarcastic or patronizing way.)

Has anyone seen Paid's post on the borg?

If Jessie was 6 or 7 years old and came up with the same story after being interrogated by the police without an attorney or parent....would you think the story was correct?

Do you think Aaron Hutcheson was telling the truth? Aaron was older than the mental age of Jessie at the time.
Jessie didn't even know that Stidham was working on his behalf.

Lordy be. I hadn't seen it before.* It is ludicrous. As if Aaron had even 1/2 of the life experience that Jessie had - Aaron had a lot less than half, I'd bet. If you read Jessie's 2/17 confession vs. any/all of Aaron's statements, it is obvious the comparison is absurd.

TJM... Really? That Damien-fetish thing always seems so odd to me, since Jason has always been the one to give me most pause.

*  Hey, Sheer... Any chance you know which thread it's in (still? I realize your post was quite awhile ago)? I'd like to read what led up to it and what the replies were..

Oh, and Farm... Did you finish "Case Closed"? My best friend mentioned I should read that a few months ago. I may have to check ebay for a copy.

Yes, and I do recommend it. (as long as you aren't enough of an Oliver Stone fan to be put off by a loss of respect for him)

Garrison and company were fucking CRIMINALS.

I think Oliver Stone has made some interesting movies. That being said, I take anything he makes/says about politics with at least a grain of salt.  I'm glad you mentioned "Case Closed" though... I had forgotten about it, and it does sound like something I should read.

It's funny to read about the REAL Garrison - whilst picturing Mr. Clean cut All-American boy scout Costner.

Of course it's equally funny to read about the REAL George Jung whilst picturing the anti-hero Johnny Depp.

There were cocaine kingpins who lived as honorable a life as a drug dealer could.

Jung wasn't one of them.

Poser's Case Closed is wonderful. I bought the hardback when it came out. I'm gonna have to pull it out and reread it now.

Garrison makes for great fiction. Fact, not so much.

I loved how Posner devoted so much of the book to the ridiculous lengths the "conspiracy theorists" would go to in order to cling to their nonsense - how whenever one theory gets shot down, they all rally around the next one.

Very familiar that.

So did it change your mind? Do you completely agree with the Oswald as lone gunman theory after reading it? (Seems to me you used to question that theory, but it's been a lot of years since I recall you discussing it, so I apologize if you never had questions and I just thought you did...)

I read A LOT on the RFK assassination/Sirhan Sirhan awhile back. (I remember reading RFK/Hoffa stuff when I was in fifth grade - RFK has always interested me.) There's a lot of stuff about the "extra" bullets, and some of it is interesting - if largely in the way you mentioned... there's always an answer from conspiracy theorists to every viewpoint on why SS did it alone. I'm (as) sure (as I can be from this perspective) that he did. Again, not as questionable, perhaps, as JFK - but I agree it is interesting to see how so many other theories can sound "logical" at a certain point.

Not to any great degree, I've always had serious doubts about Garrison's credibility.

They just aren't simply doubts anymore.

Nah.

In fact, I watched the television renactment of the "head shot" using the jello filled prosthetic, and I STILL don't buy that the fatal shot came from behind - I've been shooting rifles since I was eight years old.

But you can't argue with the overwhelming proof that Garrison fabricated pretty much every piece of "evidence" he ever presented.

I mean even the most mundane crap - he COMPLETLY pulled it out of his ass, and then ran like hell anytime he was questioned about it.

The guy was seriously fucked in the head.

I edited my post before/during your comment, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter... (I'm used to people being asleep when I post.)

I was kind of hoping Posner could explain it all away - the strangeness of the bullet angle and all.  So I guess, even if Garrison was a crook who fabricated pretty much everything (and I'd have to read the book to comment on that, obviously), you still don't believe the theory.  No doubt, sometimes people lie/fabricate, but it does not change the actual situation just because they do. It would be nice if no one ever lied or fabricated or embellished, but this is the real world and, IMO, sometimes justice is a game - like debate team or something - they give you a side, and you do your best to prove your "case," whether or not you believe in everything you are saying.  (One of the reasons I'd suck as a lawyer.)

p.s. What movie does Depp play Jung in? I'm horribly out of the "loop", but that sounds interesting too...

Then again, I should get the book and read it...  I may be digging this topic back up to discuss once I've done it (or maybe I'll just throw it in the "Books" area).

He does explain away the "magic" bullet - though there was a documentary on television some years ago that did the same.

(i.e. The back seat of the 62 Contenental convertable was narrower than the front to make room for the retractable top, which when taken into consideration lines up the injuries of JFK and Connelly - no "changing direction three times in mid air" nonsense)

Which theory, Warren?

Warren claimed there was no evidence of a conspiracy,... I can't offer any.

I can only say that I'm not convinced the fatal shot came from behind.

That doesn't mean you have to accept blatant dishonesty.

I'm pretty sure I saw that. I'm just not sure I can wrap my head around it. Again, it might be that I have not read/seen enough to comment on it intelligently.

Yeah, I'm not one to claim conspiracy in this case either. I know a lot of people do - the WMPD were crooked, the Prosecution was "after" JJ&D and not just doing their job and Burnett is the most horrible man to walk the planet. I've never been one of those people.

I try not to. I try to call a spade a spade when I see it. I know I can be oblivious at times, but I don't do it on purpose. There is always a part of me who is here simply because I want to make sense of the things I don't understand yet. And, yes, after all these years, there are still things I don't understand. If that makes me an idiot, then so be it.

Good one, TJM. Was that off the top of your head, or did it take you all month to think of it?

If that peanut is wearing a top hat and eyepiece and carrying a cane, then it's not me. I'm much cuter than that.
