Where are you, turtle-woman?

Peretti testified today that he's bred turtles, apparently for years, and he still has about 200 of the little critters.

I'd say he can distinguish between a sharp-instrument wound and a turtle bite, wouldn't you?

LOL, Mary. Well you'd think so...

Quote
Peretti said that before he began medical school, he majored in biology and chemistry. He deemed himself an animal lover and breeds turtles as a hobby. He said he mostly has Arkansas breeds of turtle, but also has more exotic breeds as well. Some of them are Alligator Snapping Turtles, and Peretti testified that one of them weighs about fifty pounds and is seventeen years old. He consults with Kelly Irwin and is called to examine turtles that have certain ailments. He stated he also wanted to work on Arkansas legislation regarding ASTs. He said he also performs autopsies on turtles. Holt wanted to then submit Peretti as an expert on the Arkansas turtle

.

Peretti breeds alliigator snappers, amongst other turtles? You couldn't make something that perfect up, lol. They can kiss their turtle theory goodbye.  :D

I've bumped the turtle thread on the Supporter board, Mary.

I wasn't going to Peretti gloat there - and then I thought... fuck it.

It's like seeing the end of a great "Punked". Peretti with his 300 turtles, lol. If this was a movie, you'd throw that out as unrealistic scripting.

So the guy that did the autopsies, who was there, who also happens to be a turtle expert, knows less than the NEW paid-fer animal bite mark consultants (as distinct from the OLD paid-fer human bite mark consultants)? As you know - at some expense to their client with the money tree, these "experts", surely dripping their overfilled martini, just looked at photos in 2007, from whence they created a paid report. Crazy how some Supporters continue to call these court theory whores "experts" while disregarding the original evidence.

Even for the loopiest, most gung ho Supporters, this has got to be spraying the Silly String a little too far.  :D

I saw it, Kimbo.  What great comedy...Peretti has only raised a measly 200 snappers...a mere amateur.

Any thoughts on why the defense didn't call Kelly Irwin?  LOL!

This why I think the "TURTLE THEORY IS A BUNCH OF CRAP"  Many years ago I use to fish this pond in Germantown, TN.  I was having a great day as I had caught 6 fish in about an hour, and the average size was 2+lbs and better (1 was 5lb er).  Well I put the fish on a stringer and put them back into the pond and continued to fish for a Little while longer.  I had decided to walk around the pond where I spotted a fallen tree, thinking I might catch a lunker.  well after the fishing went cold I went back to get my stinger and pulled my stringer up and all I had were FISH HEADS, them turtles found my stinger and in a matter of around 30min had devoured my stringer of fish to the bony heads.  I was pissed and amazed.  So wouldn't be logical to see a tremendous amount of "ANIMAL PREDITAITON" considering the amount of time.  GEEZ the defense specialist are a bunch of idiots. Just my 2 pennies.

Sounds to me like you're agreeing with the defense theory.

Hi Mary,
NOPE, the point of the story is that within 30min, turtles consumed around 20lbs of fish, so to think it was turtles is a bunch of crap, If they think a turtle would only take a bite or a nibble in the time of the murders till they were found, they are frickin nuts, the turtles would gorge themselves.

Fish flesh /scales  vs human flesh / skin, come on.....  really.  I think you have answered your own question.  One thing you have kindly confirmed is that the tremendous amount of work that the defense put in to determine the actual cause of injuries was not in fact a waste of time or some far fetched theory.  They have got it right!

You can sell that to someone else, but the The Alligator Snapping Turtle possesses the second strongest bite strength of any animal in the world.  look it up on any encyclopedia.

I know you wont believe that it wasn't the 3 guilty people in prison, and again I know its bunk, if it were turtles as you think, they would have consumed many pounds of flesh.

Remarks: The taxonomy of M. temmincki has been reviewed by King and Burke (1989), Pritchard (1989), Lovich (1993), and Iverson et al. (2000).  Although Pritchard (1989) has argued in favor of using the name Macroclemys temmincki, Iverson et al. (2000) follow the more current research of Webb (1995) and use the name Macrochelys temminckii based upon priority. Scientific and standard English names follow Crother (2008).

The best review of M. temminckii biology and natural history is by Pritchard (1989).  Alligator snapping turtles are massive, highly aquatic turtles that inhabit deep waters, primarily deep rivers with steep banks; but lakes and swamps are also inhabited (Pritchard, 1989, 1992).  Macrochelys temminckii crawls, rather than swims, along the bottoms of waterways and rarely basks out of water (Pritchard, 1989; Conant and Collins, 1998).  The prehensile tails of juveniles may prevent them from being washed downstream in strong river currents (Pritchard, 1989).  For the most part, M. temminckii is a carnivore that feeds primarily on fish, smaller turtles (especially kinosternids), crayfish and mollusks (mussels and snails), but occasionally eats baby alligators, small mammals, ducks, amphibians, carrion, fruit and acorns (Dundee and Rossman, 1989; Ernst and Barbour, 1989; Pritchard, 1989; Ernst et al., 1994; Conant and Collins, 1998).  Although they actively forage for food along the bottom, they hunt for fish by lying still in ambush, with open mouth while wriggling the lure appendage on the tongue (Obst, 1986, 1998; Pritchard, 1989, 1992; Zug et al., 2001).  Fish are trapped in their mouths in this fashion more commonly by smaller, younger turtles than by larger adults that spend more time actively foraging (Pritchard, 1989).   Females typically lay their eggs in loose, moist soil in or near river banks (Pritchard, 1989).
