A defense lawyer for one of three men convicted in the 1993 slayings of three West Memphis boys says a notice of appeal would be filed within days of a judge's ruling denying a new trial in the case.

Dennis Riordan of San Francisco, who represents death-row inmate Damien Echols, says the appeal would be filed with the Arkansas Supreme Court. The high court previously upheld the convictions.

Crittenden County Circuit Judge David Burnett Wednesday rejected claims that new DNA evidence proves the innocence of Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley. Burnett also said that even if he agreed that the new DNA evidence should be heard in court, he would deny Echols' request for a trial because there was "not compelling evidence that he would be acquitted."

The men, known as the "West Memphis Three" by supporters who include music celebrities, were teenagers when the bodies of 8-year-olds Steve Branch, Michael, Moore, and Christopher Byers were found in a drainage ditch May 6th, 1993, near their neighborhood.

Baldwin was convicted of capital murder and sentenced to life in prison without parole. Misskelley was convicted of first-degree murder in Moore's death and second-degree murder in the deaths of the other two boys. He was sentenced to life plus 40 years.

And we all know the appeal will totally be granted because Burnett is blinded by his own prejudiced outlook whereas the court will totally see that the DNA is a shining beacon that demon Burnett is pointedly ignoring!  ::)

Thread derail here.....but found this funny.

I was recently enlightened that the Warden at Varner where Echols is being 'held captive' ;D was personally called by actor Johnny Depp asking for a visit with Damien, so he could make a movie on this case.
I USED to really be a huge fan of Johnny Depp.

AND Judge David Burnette was 'very happy to hear of his supporter nickname of Judge Burnout.  Sometimes I wonder if the supporters realize that they do more harm than good , with the exception of filling Lorri's pocketbook and b paypal account.  ;D

Thats not surprising because Wynona Ryder was a supporter of the case while she was stealing from stores, and since she was engaged to Depp it doesn't surprise me.

Poor dumbass actors, probably don't know shit about the case.

I wonder why he doesn't make a movie about River Phoenix, since he's so "compassionate"?

I guess letting one of your drug buddies OD in your club wouldn't come off as well.
