Within the last 2 weeks, I have seen Doll and WG use the fact that Jason didn't get the dp as some kind of argument for innocence/conspiracy etc etc.

Jason was only 16 and as I recall the jury took that into consideration when sentencing.

I saw doll posting that quite a bit so I did answer her after she posted this:

I had posted about Jasons supposed *ringleader type* behavior on another board and asked why is it that Jason is not on deathrow but Damien is, no answer so far..

Making it sound like it was impossible to answer or some shit. My reply:

If you are asking me why I think Echols is on death row by himself, I think it's because he was the catalyst. The crimes would not have happened had he not called the children into the woods and then grabbed them. I'm sure Misskelley would have ended up in prison at some point on his own, he was dangerous and hot tempered with little common sense. I don't know about Baldwin, the sick, deviant behavior that has been ascribed to his involvement, maybe he would have snapped eventually and done something like this on his own. But as far as this particular triple homicide, it wouldn't have happened without Echols getting the ball rolling.

I am still in disbelief that people from this town served on that jury and sentenced a young man to death.  I've lived here most all of my life and.............. I just cannot believe it still after all of these years.

I'm glad that they did, but just in shock over it.

When I first came here to this board, I was not comfortable with the death penalty..............I know that I could have never handed down a punishment like that myself.  Not at that time anyway.   I don't know if I could now, however I have changed my views on it .............I might could, just not sure.

I feel that those jurors were horrified by what all they came to learn during that trial.

I am not surprised one bit that they did not sentence Baldwin to death though............if there was any tiny, any kind of a reason in his favor...........quiet, shy acting, remorseful looking , child like  or just anything..............and I can see them seeing all of that in him.................that is exactly why that I think that he didn't get his days numbered also.

Here maybe this will help. Arkansas does not allow the DP for people under 18.

Exactly, the jury did in fact list this as an extenuating circumstance in their sentencing.

And don't think for a moment that dullard doesn't know this - like Boo, she has acknowledged it herself more than once.

She's just another pathological liar.

When I first came here to this board, I was not comfortable with the death penalty

Well, most people know that despite the "tailgater" stuff (which I mainly use to fuck Chase up) I'm not a died in the wool advocate for capitol punishment.

I lean away from it most of the time because I have little doubt that innocent persons can and probably have been put to death despite a single proven instance to date.

But then along comes a Kennith McDuff or a Steve Avery who prove that life in prison doesn't always keep society safe from the animals out there either.

I am positive it has more to do with revenge than justice, and were a child of mine brutally murdered, I would have absolutely no problem with that - Unfortunately, were a child of mine to brutally murder another - I suspect I would have a serious problem with it?

I just don't see any way to intelligently discuss it from either position without exhibiting a certain level of hypocrisy, so I avoid it for the most part.

All I can say without any reservation whatsoever is that to date, the convicts in this case have yet to pay for their crimes - whatever that cost may be.

My post last night was made in an sleep deprived stupor............
I still meant what I said, but after re-reading it, it didn't come out quite like I meant for it to.

What I meant to say was.................after all of these years..................I am still amazed that Damien received the D/P, only due to him being such a young man also.

Jonesboro has changed alot since then, we have had lots of worldly events that have made us less sensitive since 1993.  We even had the Westside Shooting right here in our own yard.  Geesh, I hate to even re-live that though.

Anyhoo,  I just feel that for back then, for anyone to find twelve jurors and have them all convict a young man such as Echols to death........................they were heavily convinced.

The reason that I was even thinking about that alot, is because awhile back the Kent Arnold thing came up that he had tampered with the jury........................and some of my posts can still be found where I myself was a sucker to believe that one for a little while.  It even came out of my mouth or off of my dang keyboard that is he did tamper, that they should get a new trial.

Then, on my own started thinking harder about it...................there is absolutely no way that one juror could have came here to this town and convinced eleven others to sentence any young man to death.

Damien Echols earned and deserved that sentencing for himself.  Twelve taintable people from here could not have made it past jury questioning for the state and defense to get on that jury and do something like that.  There is no way.

I also believe that his actions in the courtroom and in and out of the courhouse..............his smugness, smiles and blown kisses  had so very much to do with his D/P sentence.

Those twelve jurors were convinced through evidence and saw for themselves exactly what kind of a monster he was.  That's why he received the sentence that he did.

Jason..................yes,  his age saved him.   Also, I do wonder if he were eighteen and carried himself as he did.  The way he acted completely different from Damien ............if they would have given him the D/P anyway?  My personal guess would be.........no.

We have had alot of desensitizing stuff here in the past decade and a half.............but for back then, I just feel that Damien worked hard for his sentence the entire time, both with the murders and the attitude.

I was afraid after I reread my post that it looked like I felt that he didn't deserve the D/P.
He definately did and does.

I don't understand why Doll would pretend that she didn't know this part of the case? She must have known that she'd be made to look like a total fool?

Sad and a perfect example of why newbies turn Non....
