My copy finally arrived. I'm only about 1/4 way through and I'm finding it hard to read.

I really hate to say it, but Devil's Knot was written so much better. Yes, I know it was a biased piece of propoganda, but as far as the writing style and storytelling, Mara craps all over these guys.

I wonder why the authors don't name Deanna Holcombe in the book? Whenever they refer to her they just call her a girl Damien was going out with.

I'm yet to read it, but I don't think they wanted to name people under 21 at the time it was written? I could be wrong, they may been trying to protect their privacy.

I don't know, they named a lot of other people under 21, including Domini.

Speaking of Domini, does anybody wonder about her involvement? I used to think she was sus, but if she were, surely Jessie would have told.

Personally,
I think she was with Damien on the service road when Narlene Hollingsworth spotted them in Muddy clothes. I think she went and helped Damien clean up the site. She lied several times during the investigation and even tried to get her aunt to change her story

Yep, what I think too. Sucks that the prosecution tried to claim it was Baldwin on the service road with Echols, it confuses things. I think they went back and bragged about what they did, and Domini made Echols go back with her to clean the scene up to keep him from going to jail. I wouldn't be surprised if some of these unknown hairs could be traced back to the Teer household.

I think that is why we don't hear a peep from her.

I wish she would own up.

I'm not sure how the law works in the US. Would she still be able to be charged with accessory after the fact? Is there a statute of limitations on that? Is murder the only thing that has a statute of limitations?

I think accessory has no limitations. I know that child abuse is also one crime without a limitation on it. For example, if I have a client who is 50 years old and he/she tells me they were abused as a child by someone, by law I have to report it and if the person is still alive they will be prosecuted for it. Rape is also another one without limitations if someone told me they raped someone I would have to report it too. So murder, child abuse, rape are the only ones I know for sure. Auburn might be able to answer your question better.

Thanks Kerrie.

I just finished the book. It was not a very good read. Not well written at all. Weren't these guys journalists? I didn't find their writing style at all easy to follow.

I didn't realise until it arrived in the post that it's a 'Pinnacle True Crime' publication. I have tried to read a few of those before and found them to really badly written.

Still, I'm glad I read it because I had been told it was a pro-prosecution book (which, now I have read it, I don't necessarily agree with) and I wanted to compare it with Devil's Knot.

Wow.  That's interesting. That you don't think Domini was confused for Jason...  I think that the Domini was in the family, so they'd have known her. Then again, I'm amazed every so often of how many people were related when I read the docs...

If Echols and Baldwin were drinking, it would tend to make sense that Domini went back to make sure the scene was cleaned up. She made it clear in PL1 that she didn't care about the victims, she just didn't want Echols to go to prison. Pressed for time so I don't have time to look it up but didn't the Echols/Teer sighting coincide pretty close with the splashes (I assume bikes getting thrown in 10 mile) that Ryan Clark heard?

It would make sense that she went back to the murder site just to clean up for them? I'm not sure about that.

Doesn't make sense for rational adults, no. Would you put a 16 year old Domini Teer in that category with us, though?

I don't, either.  That's always bothered me.  I understand why they suggested it to the jurors, but it was a bad move, imo.

I agree - I think it's pretty idiotic.  I admit I'm surprised anyone here would agree... let alone a couple or a few of you.

Why do you think they did it (claimed it was Jason and not Domini)?  Cause they needed more on Jason, or for some other reason?
