I can't imagine being a defense attorney or prosecutor. I think it would fuck with my head having people's lives on the line and depending on me. I have a lot of respect for people who do it well, but it just does not seem like an easy job.

Which is why a good defense attorney doesn't proclaim innocence.

The case never went to trial (it was dismissed at the preliminary hearing), but this was the only time I ever felt comfortable making that argument to the prosecutor.

Did you proclaim innocence to the prosecutor, in that situation?

I don't think, in this case, Riordan has to be a liar

Riordan is a liar in this case - there is absolutely no question about that.

He has to play the system to some extent, IMO, since he only has certain avenues to prove Damien innocent

I suspect everyone here is quite familiar with your belief that lying is ok, as long as it helps Echols.

<sigh> That's not my belief at all. You're doing well at keeping up your asshole reputation when you reply to me though. At least that's something.  :P

If you don't own other people's issues it isn't that difficult. Most defendants are guilty, not because you prosecute them or defend them, but because they committed a crime.

I don't use the term innocence where defendants are concerned. The system is set up to determine guilty or not guilty, not innocence. I presented the facts and argued that there was no evidence indicating guilt save for her statement, and that I believe that he was, in fact, not guilty.
